The Proposed Development

The All Saints Community Development Project is a £4.5 million scheme to create All Saints Centre, a dynamic facility for healthy living and spiritual welfare at the heart of Kings Heath improving the quality of life for many thousands of people. It will bring a new medical centre, new community buildings and a new public square, and restore and repair the existing church for worship and community use.

The project will transform the heart of our urban village, reversing the perceived decline of the High Street and provide much needed safe, accessible and attractive public amenities for the benefit of the whole community. The project is well supported by community groups, residents, businesses, schools, city councillors, the congregation and local MPs

The new centre will:

  • provide a new home for our local doctor’s surgery, improving patient facilities and extending health care services
  • be open every day for young people for support, advice, positive activity and informal education
  • provide secure and welcoming day care for 24 elderly people
  • encourage creative working between the medical centre; children’s, young people’s and elderly groups; and the arts and education programme.
  • offer much needed quality accommodation for community groups in an accessible location at an affordable price
  • include a community café for the benefit of centre users, residents and people working in and visiting Kings Heath
  • include a new public square for relaxation, recreation and a farmer’s market in the heart of a busy community
  • include the re-ordered All Saints church for worship, community arts and education, and the accommodation of a local history archive.

The financial appraisal demonstrates that rent from users of the centre and village square, fees for services provided and contribution from the community café will more than meet the annual running costs.

Detailed plans for the site and buildings are completed and planning permission has been obtained.  Building work on Phase 1 will start this summer (2006), and should be completed by the spring of next year
